Dating Advice from my Grandma & Grandpa

My schedule for today was non-existent. I was going to sleep, sleep, and sleep some more.
Then my parents scheduled an appointment to go get my car fixed, so alas I had to get out of bed and go over into town to get it fixed.
Afterwards, my mother told me that my grandma had something for me, so I needed to stop over and get it.
I didn't just stop over.
I sat and talked to my grandparents for two almost three hours.
It was wonderful.
I'll give you the play by play.
I arrive.
Me: "Grandma? Where are you?"
Grandma: "Down here!" (she appears from downstairs) Hi Elisabeth!"
Me: "Hi Grandma! How are you?"
Grandma: "Good. How are you?"
Me: "Good! I thought I'd just stop over and visit." (okay. kind of a lie...)
Grandma: "Oh, I'm so glad! I love when you come visit."
I then helped my grandpa shovel the driveway and then we sat down for hot cocoa.
Grandma: "My favorite part of winter is hot chocolate and toast!"
Me: "Me too!!"
(Sidenote: my grandpa has early onsets of dementia, so his social graces are less than graceful)
Grandpa: "So, have you found any handsome young men yet?" (this is totally out of character for my grandpa to ask me this...)
Me: "Oh there are plenty of handsome young men, they just don't ask me out."
Grandpa: "When I was datin', you just go up and ask a girl out. It didn't take anything. You just did it."
Me: "Oh yeah?" In my mind: You tell those young men!
Grandma: "I just don't understand why boys won't ask cute girls out."
Me: "Me either!"
Grandpa: "Now, when a boy gets...I don't know how to say it, but...overbearing. You just tell him to lay off and go find some other girl. You don't be with a boy like that."
Me: "Don't worry, Grandpa, I won't."
And that ladies & gentleman is why I stayed for almost three hours. Dating advice from my grandma & grandpa is priceless!

  2. hahaha! The only dating advice I got from my Grandpa was when I went off to college: "No alcohol. No drugs. No boys."
"But Grandpa, how am I supposed to get married?"
"Ask me again in three years and I'll find you a husband."
    :P
