Dating Advice from my Grandma & Grandpa

My schedule for today was non-existent. I was going to sleep, sleep, and sleep some more.
Then my parents scheduled an appointment to go get my car fixed, so alas I had to get out of bed and go over into town to get it fixed.
Afterwards, my mother told me that my grandma had something for me, so I needed to stop over and get it.
I didn't just stop over.
I sat and talked to my grandparents for two almost three hours.
It was wonderful.
I'll give you the play by play.
I arrive.
Me: "Grandma? Where are you?"
Grandma: "Down here!" (she appears from downstairs) Hi Elisabeth!"
Me: "Hi Grandma! How are you?"
Grandma: "Good. How are you?"
Me: "Good! I thought I'd just stop over and visit." (okay. kind of a lie...)
Grandma: "Oh, I'm so glad! I love when you come visit."
I then helped my grandpa shovel the driveway and then we sat down for hot cocoa.
Grandma: "My favorite part of winter is hot chocolate and toast!"
Me: "Me too!!"
(Sidenote: my grandpa has early onsets of dementia, so his social graces are less than graceful)
Grandpa: "So, have you found any handsome young men yet?" (this is totally out of character for my grandpa to ask me this...)
Me: "Oh there are plenty of handsome young men, they just don't ask me out."
Grandpa: "When I was datin', you just go up and ask a girl out. It didn't take anything. You just did it."
Me: "Oh yeah?" In my mind: You tell those young men!
Grandma: "I just don't understand why boys won't ask cute girls out."
Me: "Me either!"
Grandpa: "Now, when a boy gets...I don't know how to say it, but...overbearing. You just tell him to lay off and go find some other girl. You don't be with a boy like that."
Me: "Don't worry, Grandpa, I won't."
And that ladies & gentleman is why I stayed for almost three hours. Dating advice from my grandma & grandpa is priceless!

If I Could Have Just One Wish..

If I could have just one wish, it would be this:
A boy calls me up (because he wants to, not because anybody made him) and asks me on a date.
He picks me up and does everything he can to be a chivalrous ninja.
We have a fun, normal date.
Then he drops me off and we hug.
The end.
Alas, this has yet to happen to me.
But it's alright, I know will happen someday.
I'm just WAY too impatient. ;)

Dating the Zamboni Man

(Brooklyn, Nichelle, and I)
I love these girls!
And I love when we go to a hockey game, we decide it would be a good idea to date the zamboni man so he can give us free rides and potentially propose to us on top of it.

Guys Suck or Guys Are Awesome?

I have a roommate. Her name is Naomi.
And often she says this:
"Boys are so distracting! I can't eat, I can't sleep, I can't think straight, I can't focus. Everything just goes back to him. Guys just suck."
What this really means is that she loves boys.
Girls love being distracted by boys.
We like to complain and say how annoying boys are and how they toy with our emotions and our hearts...blah, blah, blah, but we make it that way.
More often than not, girls make boys a big deal.
Why is that?
Why do girls make boys distracting?
And I'm not exempt from this torturous thinking.
It's a disease. A full blown medical disease that infects girls hearts leaving them to rot in the dust.
Okay...that was a little dramatic, but it's true.
I guess why girls indulge in this idyllic thinking is for a distraction.
At least, that's what I do.
I tend to think about boys because I tend to have negative thinking, which thinking about boys doesn't help, but it gives me something to look forward to.
Something to make me feel like my life is worth it.
This is a terrible ideology because deep down inside I KNOW my life is worth it with or without boys.
But what do you think? Why has this become such a blatant ideology for us girls?

I Walked Alone To Church Today

Today was the Brigham City temple dedication and it was marvelous!!
All of my roommates were gone this weekend doing various activities, so alas, I set out to go the dedication alone.
I was a little sad because as a girl, I always have a wingwoman with me, but today was the exception.
As I began my perilous trek across Old Farm, I ran into some friends.
Then I sat by those friends at the dedication.
Then as I was leaving, I ran into another friend.
Guys. This is why I make friends!!
Because when I'm planning to sit all alone at the temple dedication, that fact never becomes reality.

I've Never Gotten Flowers

There are thousands of different guys in the world.
Hipsters and Nerds, Football players and Church-goers.
But all I want is a nice guy.
The kind of guy that will go out of his way to say hi to you.
The kind of guy who genuinely cares about the well-being of others around him.
The kind of guy who is just.....nice.
He's amiable, pleasant, and well-mannered.
I want the kind of guy who will have the courage to walk away from a fight when needed, but the determination to stand up for what he believes in.
I want a guy who's ethical and fair, who will give me flowers because I've never gotten flowers before.

My Significantly Amazing Day

My life has spun out of control.
These last couple of days have left me feeling like this:
Creepy, right?
Nah, mostly, it's just been super stressful.
I found earlier today that I owed $1700 dollars in tuition that I DON'T have. I seriously had a panic attack, but then I figured out that I just have to fill out a couple of different forms to make my loan go through.
For awhile there...it was pretty sketchy.
But it's fine.
I almost had a breakdown in the registrar's office, but then I decided to be brave and talk to this pretty cute guy that was standing behind me in line (who also happens to have a dreamy singing voice) and my life got significantly more amazing.
Happy Tuesday, everyone!!!
I hope you are all having a significantly amazing day!

I Like To Go Barefoot In The Park Too!

I just watched this on Netflix the other day.
Have you ever heard of this show?
It's stinkin' hilarious. But mostly kind of weird.
Hysterical, yet anticlimactic.
There was a lot of this:
However, I did like it.
Robert Redford is beautiful...
and Jane Fonda is extraordinary slash also gorgeous.
Plus, this show was made in 1964!!
Holy crap!
That was back in the day when married couples slept on different beds.
Also, did you know that Robert Redford was the one that started the Sundance Film Festival?!
This guy is a legend!
I'd go barefoot in the park with him any day.

First In Love

I've never had a boyfriend, but I can say that I've felt love before, so here it goes.

Your nerdy laugh & awkward lankiness drew me in with impeccable force.
I sit in class plotting ways to run into you.
All of a sudden, there you are, walking down the hallway with those long legs of yours.
I look down. Too afraid to look into your lovely brown eyes.
I must be brave & with all my strength I casually wave my hand and say "hi".
You say "hi" back & we talk a little bit.
You start telling me about co-signs & tangent lines & how much you love calculus.
I begin to falter in speech because I can't comprehend your smartypants remarks.
But I still listen.
Because talking about calculus for twenty minutes is better than not talking to you at all.

Eating Skittles

I would like to preface this post by saying that I'm super embarrassed right now.
Mostly because I gave a talk in church today & all I did was ramble about adversity.
Which (of course) means that I spilled my guts all over the pulpit.
Gross & embarrassing. I know.
I was trying to impress a cute boy while also trying to appear normal.
That's never a good combination.
So, to relieve myself from my self-inflicted horror, I am eating skittles.
Their expiration date was probably the year 1997 and they taste a lot a little stale, but oh well.
I am eating the skittles anyway.
